Welcome to DMEllis.com
I'm so happy that you've stumbled upon my little place on the web. This is mostly a playground for me to experiment with new technology. Who am I, you ask? Well, I'm Donnie, and I work as a DevOps engineer at the Virginia ABC Authority. Beyond my day job, I am what you would call a tech enthusiast. When I haven't had enough of staring at a computer screen during the day, I turn on another one and do more at night. Most of what I work on outside of work is unrelated to what I do for my job because I just really enjoy learning new things. This site is a place for me to experiment with those new things. If you have visited previously, you might have seen different variations of the site.
The Technological History of DMEllis.com
Back in the day, it was written in C# using ASP.NET 2.0. It has also been running in Flask using Python. I then switched to JavaScript using a Vue frontend with a .NET 3.1 backend written in C#. Never satisfied, I then switched the backend to Go. Finally, today we have a NextJS application. That was a bit of a trip down memory lane for me.
What to Expect Going Forward
Not a lot, unfortunately. I have no plans to monetize this, so I don't expect nor want a ton of traffic. I may post some guides related to what I'm working on. To be honest, this blog was more of a "can I build this thing" test. So for now, I would temper your expectations and just enjoy whatever content I do put out. Thanks for your time.
